The T Nonimmigrant Status (T Visa) is a path to safety, healing, and legal protection for survivors of human trafficking in the United States.
This immigration benefit was created to help victims escape exploitation and empower them to assist law enforcement in the detection, investigation, and prosecution of human trafficking crimes.
• Temporary Legal Status: Allows eligible victims to remain and work legally in the U.S. for an initial period of up to 4 years.
• Work Authorization: Recipients are eligible for an Employment Authorization Document (EAD).
• Pathway to Permanence: After meeting certain requirements, T Visa holders may apply for Lawful Permanent Residency (a Green Card).
• Family Unity: Certain immediate family members may also be eligible for derivative T visas to join the victim in the U.S.
• You are a victim of a severe form of trafficking in persons (including labor or sex trafficking).
• You are physically present in the U.S. on account of the trafficking.
• You would suffer extreme hardship if removed from the U.S.
• You have complied with any reasonable request for assistance from law enforcement (unless you were under 18 or unable to cooperate due to physical or psychological trauma).
You have rights, and there is help available.
